Our Story

La Brea Bakery has become reknowned around the world for it's unique trademark sourdough starter.


Created in 1989, by founder Chef Nancy Silverton, this original, or ‘mother’ starter, is a unique combination of flour, water and wild yeasts that has matured over time, making it impossible to replicate.


Using a traditional form of natural leavening, our bread gets the extra time it needs to develop its powerful flavour, distinctive crust, and unique texture. When you try La Brea Bakery breads you will taste the quality that only this kind of passion and attention to detail can assure.
